A Designer at Heart has been in charge of the design of communal areas & studio apartments for a student accommodation in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
Our commitment to shaping the space around resident preferences mirrors Nido's student-centric ethos. A key aspect of our design is the signature interior concept, facilitating interaction between staff and students. This includes a floating reception desk with no visual barriers, and plenty of lounge seating, encouraging spontaneous communication. We've integrated design features that serve as conversation starters (i.e. a curated selection of accessories such as board games and a diversified collection of books on various topics). Through surveys, students' preference for neutral yet personality-infused room decor emerged. This influenced our selection of classic timber-effect and edgy charcoal-black elements, offering a blend of sophistication and industrial aesthetics. A vibrant pop of colour in the dining chairs matches the window frames. Our design integrates a variety of study environments, from collaborative to individual. Each area boasts task lighting and power outlets. We've introduced a private dining room, responding to students' desire for spaces to share meals with friends. The fully equipped gym, designed to promote physical wellness, reflects the importance of fitness and health in modern student life.The overwhelmingly positive initial feedback from students indicate that our design is set to have a transformative impact on their experience.
A Designer at Heart was appointed to create the interior design concept and technical development for apartments & amenities of Nido Randwyck, aiming to exceed the expectations of student living in Europe. Our approach was driven by the core values of modern living, well-being and affordability, aligned with Nido's vision. We adopted a multifaceted design strategy. Extensive research into the unique aspirations of students in the region informed our approach. Our open-plan layout, with strategic acoustic panels and alternating floor finishes, balanced open and private spaces. The colour scheme, inspired by the vibrant Maastricht carnival, added liveliness. Custom partitions, thoughtfully brought to life by talented local artist Paul Watty, added unique character. We ensured accessibility to power outlets for seamless studying from any location. Our bedrooms exemplified functionality without compromising style. They featured fully fitted kitchenettes, ample storage, and comfortable workspaces. Sustainable elements, including dining chairs with recycled plastic shells, energy-efficient lighting, and eco-friendly flooring, were thoughtfully integrated. Throughout the project, we collaborated with local architects and suppliers, incorporating regional design elements. Dutch brand Polspotten's colourful side tables and locally sourced art conveyed the essence of the area.
